Hi All,
Ok, so here are the results of the Ergotron LX monitor arm mount test installation.
Overall, the project is a success! JT likes the new setup and would like to get a formal quote for the remaining three smart boards.
Here is my quick analysis of the project.
Pros: -Flexible positioning - The arm is very flexible and can offer the user various positions that would not be possible with the stand monitor, including potentially eliminating the table for smart board/monitor interaction.
-Greater smart board viewing clearance - The arm allows the monitor be outside of the viewing area of the smart board, which was a problem with the stand.
-Compact storage & greater mobility - The monitor now tucks away nicely under the smart board, which means it does not have to be removed from the table or disconnected when moving the table or the smart board.
Cons: -Range limitations - The monitor stand has one advantage in mobility in that it can go wherever the desk goes... given long enough cables. The arm has a fixed reach and height which is currently limited by where we had to mount it.
-Costs - There is a cost to outfit the rest of the lab with arms compared to no cost to stay with just the stands.
Two issues:1) The Ergotron LX extender arm did not come with a black cap. Thus, it is exposed. Would it be possible to get a cap for this? I did not include a picture unfortunately.
2) The Ergotron CPU stand will not quite work for our current setup, thus we can return this. I believe we are going to go with industrial velcro to just keep the items in place, since they do not move to any great extent.
Here are the promised pictures:http://picasaweb.google.com/103473719896146808824/JTLabErgotronLXMonitorArmOnSmartBoard061410?authkey=Gv1sRgCOqD8MP-huPIFg#Recommended advancements:Based on this upgrade, I can see a need for 24" touch screen to accommodate the current half touch system. Now with the flexibility of these arms, a touch screen seems very appropriate... Or perhaps two 24" displays on either side? =D
Special thanks -Ergotron & Ronald Van Patten from Ergotronics Solutions for providing the test products.
-Michael Diffenderffer for the installation and setup advice.
